The Ministry of Health of Russia has made changes to the instructions for the use of popular drugs for the treatment and prevention of gastritis and stomach ulcers. It turned out that they “plant” the kidneys.
We are talking about drugs such as omeprozole and pantoprazole and other proton pump inhibitors. Long-term use of such drugs contributes to a negative effect on the kidneys, in particular, it develops acute tubulointerstitial nephritis, which can turn into renal failure.
Meanwhile, according to George Mason University biologist Anchi Baranova, some Russians have been taking these drugs for months to ward off heartburn. Doctors also do not avoid the possibility of prescribing such drugs to “cover the stomach” if the patient needs non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Thus, a large load is created on the kidneys. Moreover, a year ago, the Ministry of Health warned that drugs in this group increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. This was reported in the JCEM magazine, writes “Russian newspaper” .
