Hiroshima (Japan). Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on Saturday. During this, the two leaders focused on ways to coordinate efforts to address various global challenges under the G7 and G20 presidencies of Japan and India.The talks took place on the sidelines of the annual summit of the G7 grouping in Hiroshima. .
India currently holds the chairmanship of the G20 grouping, while Japan is the chairman of the G7. “The two leaders discussed ways to coordinate the efforts made under their respective chairmanships of the G20 and G7,” the MEA said. The Prime Minister noted the need to emphasize the concerns and priorities of the Global South. Modi and Kishida shared views on contemporary regional developments and discussed ways to deepen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, the ministry said.
“The two leaders also agreed on ways to strengthen the special bilateral strategic and global partnership,” the ministry said in a statement. According to the statement, they also discussed the issue of fight against terrorism and reform of the United Nations Security Council. “The areas of education, skill development, tourism, eco-friendly lifestyle, green hydrogen, high technology, semiconductor and digital public infrastructure were also discussed,” it said.
This is the second meeting between Modi and Kishida this year after the Japanese Prime Minister’s visit to India in March. Prime Minister Modi also thanked Kishida for planting a Bodhi sapling gifted to him in March this year to plant in Hiroshima.
