An unexpected visitor
The office of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has announced that the latter will attend the inauguration ceremony of President Erdogan on Saturday, despite the historical tensions between the two countries.
“Armenia has received an invitation to attend President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s inauguration ceremony,” the office said in a statement, adding that “Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will travel to Ankara on June 3 to attend the ceremony”.
There are no diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey, and their common borders have been closed since the 1990s.
Relations between the two countries are strained due to what Armenians suffered during the rule of the Ottoman sultanate in World War I, as Yerevan describes what happened as “genocide”.
There is also a disagreement between the two countries regarding Turkish support for Azerbaijan regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis.

Official election results
On Thursday, the Supreme Electoral Council announced the final results of the rerun presidential elections held on Sunday May 28, in which Erdogan won 52.18% of the vote, against 47.82% for his opponent, the candidate of the opposition Kilicdaroglu.
According to the head of the council, Ahmet Yener, the turnout in the second round reached 84.15%, when 54 million 23 thousand and 601 voters inside and outside the country cast their ballots.
