MAINZ – The ZDF television garden will also be broadcast live from the ZDF site on Mainz’s Lerchenberg in 2020. Dr. Oliver Heidemann, show boss of ZDF, in conversation with this newspaper. However, the television garden will initially have to get by without a viewer, there is no way around it, says Heidemann. As a precaution, the ZDF, therefore, canceled all tickets for the entire season. It is not excluded that, depending on the development of the Corona location, ticket sales will resume in the course of the summer. “As soon as we are allowed to receive audiences again, we will do the same,” he says.
About 5,000 to 6,000 people are usually present in Mainz per live broadcast with presenter Andrea Kiewel. “The television garden will be just as entertaining as the viewers are used to,” promises the, unfortunately, the ZDF main editorial team Show, Oliver Heidemann. There is a lot of music, and the usual elements such as cooking, handicrafts or sports are set again.
Improvised in the program
“Our presenter Andrea Kiewel will present the best entertainment for two hours with her good mood and open heart.” Above all, she should also ensure that people in Corona times get other ideas.
Of course, you had to improvise the program, says the ZDF show boss. Among other things, it was planned to focus on the European Football Championship; of course, that must now fail. Instead, he looks forward to many artists who are also happy to find a stage and audience in front of the screens in the television garden despite Corona.
The traditional television garden flea market, which was planned for Pentecost, was canceled; here one hopes for a catch-up appointment. It remains to be seen what will become of the festive Mallorca television garden. However, this also took place last year because of a storm warning in an improvised version, which also worked.
“Send a positive signal to our viewers”
The Oktoberfest in the television garden should take place according to the current status. “Of course, we drive by sight and will comply with all the guidelines that politics gives us.” It is clear that the television garden is broadcast every week from the ZDF site in Mainz – even if there are still considerations as to which parts of the huge area are being used would. “It is important to us,” says Dr. Oliver Heidemann, “that with the broadcast of the television garden we are sending a positive signal to our viewers.”
