Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Erdogan: Converting the Hagia Sophia into a museum was a wrong decision and we corrected it

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that converting the Hagia Sophia Mosque to a museum was a wrong decision and that they corrected it by returning it to its previous position in line with the endowment of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror.

This came during Erdogan’s speech, on Tuesday, after his meeting with the government.

Erdogan stressed that Turkey will continue to preserve the status of the World Cultural Heritage of Hagia Sophia in the same way that grandparents worked.

Erdogan pointed out that the number of places of worship in Turkey exceeds four and five times the number of mosques in Europe

“There is a place of worship for every 360 non-Muslim citizens in Turkey, while there is one mosque for every 2000 Muslims in Europe.”
