The Kiev authorities intend to purge the ranks of honorary citizens of the Ukrainian capital and exclude from the lists the representatives of the nomenclature of the Soviet party, including Leonid Brezhnev. Deputy Mayor of Kyiv, Secretary of the City Council Vladimir Bondarenko announced the prospect of depriving the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee of the honorary title.
“Deputies of the capital will consider a draft decision to strip ‘dear Leonid Ilyich’ of the title of honorary citizen of Kiev at a plenary meeting on May 25,” Bondarenko said as quoted by RIA Novosti.
Along with Brezhnev, the “black list” will include other Soviet leaders, leaders of the Communist Parties of the USSR, the Ukrainian SSR and other union republics. Bondarenko called it a “complex decision” that would affect representatives of the “Communist-Soviet nomenklatura”.
Earlier in the program “Mysteries of the Century” it was told about the attempt of a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU, Alexander Shelepin, to remove Leonid Brezhnev from power.
