How to submit an opinion piece to The Eastern Herald

What Is an Opinion Piece?

An opinion piece, commonly referred to as an op-ed, is a persuasive essay that presents a clear personal viewpoint on an issue of public interest. Op-eds appear alongside editorial commentary and may be written by staff contributors or external voices. These pieces are argumentative by nature, grounded in evidence and reasoning, and reflect the author’s perspective, not necessarily the views of The Eastern Herald.

We value opinion writing that is bold, informed, and intellectually rigorous.

Submission Guidelines

Word Limit
Submissions should be concise and focused. The ideal length is up to 800 words.

Article Status
We accept only complete, finished articles. Pitches, outlines, and partial drafts are not considered. Submissions must be original and must not have been previously published, posted online, or submitted elsewhere.

Author Identification
Contributors must include their full name, residential address, email address, and contact number. Anonymous submissions and pseudonyms are not accepted.

Disclosure
Any personal, professional, political, or financial interests related to the subject matter must be fully disclosed at the time of submission.

Selection Criteria

We evaluate submissions based on the following factors:

Timeliness
Does the piece engage directly with current events, emerging trends, or urgent public debates?

Reader Relevance
Will the argument resonate with a global, politically aware readership?

Originality
Does the article offer a distinct viewpoint, fresh analysis, or underreported insight?

Credibility
Formal credentials are not required, but the author’s background, experience, or proximity to the issue should support the authority of the argument.

Diverse Perspectives
We welcome voices from all backgrounds and walks of life. Insight matters more than titles.

Response Time

Due to a high volume of submissions, we are unable to respond to every contributor individually. If you do not hear from us within seven days, it is likely that your submission has not been selected for publication.

Editing Process

All accepted opinion pieces are edited for clarity, structure, factual accuracy, and stylistic consistency. Edits may also be made to meet space or formatting requirements. Contributors will have the opportunity to review and approve edits prior to publication.

Solicited Contributions

In addition to reviewing unsolicited submissions, The Eastern Herald regularly commissions opinion pieces on specific themes, particularly during major geopolitical developments or breaking news cycles.
