The two-meter distance rule in the capital area will be reintroduced, various activities will be stopped and the obligation to wear masks will be tightened in proposals that Thorolfur Gudnason, epidemiologist, sends to the Minister of Health today . He warns that the epidemic seems to be growing exponentially in the capital area.

In the last 24 hours, 99 people have been diagnosed with coronary heart disease in Iceland , and they have not been more since the turn of the month, March-April, when the first wave of the epidemic was underway. Thorolfur said at an information meeting between the Civil Defense and the Medical Director of Health today that in light of this it was necessary to take tougher action in the capital area, where the vast majority of cases are now being diagnosed.

In proposals that Thorolfur Gudnason sends to the Minister of Health today, he said that it will be proposed that the distance rule be changed from one meter to two meters as was the case this spring. The one-meter rule will remain in force outside the capital area.

The number limit will remain twenty meters in the capital area. There will be an exemption for church funerals where fifty people are allowed to gather and thirty people are allowed to gather in colleges and universities.

He also said that he intended to propose that various activities that were temporarily closed this spring be closed again and that it be recommended that all competition activities in sports be postponed for two weeks in the capital area.

Restaurants now have to close at 21:00 in the evening instead of 23:00 before and the mask obligation will be tightened if the Minister agrees to the proposals.
