Biden predicts coronavirus pandemic will kill “well over 600,000”

US President Joe Biden today estimated that the coronavirus pandemic will kill “more than 600,000” in the United States.

“We need to act,” the US president told a news conference.

“We are at 400,000 dead, we are expected to reach much more than 600,000,” the new president, who had never mentioned such a high figure, told reporters at the White House.

It is his highest estimate so far of the eventual death toll from the coronavirus outbreak in the United States.

“Families are starving. People are at risk of being evicted. Job losses are increasing again,” President Biden said, before signing executive orders to address the food crisis that affects millions of Americans.

“We need to act,” Biden emphasized, according to the AFP agency.

Biden spoke as the United States surpassed 410,000 coronavirus deaths, with 24.6 million confirmed infections since the outbreak began at least a year ago.
