For the first time… Israel accomplishes a laser interception system

Tel Aviv, Israel / TEH:  On Thursday, Israel announced that it had completed, for the first time, a series of experiments on a laser interceptor system; Its mission is to address drones and mortars.

“International achievement – We have completed for the first time in the world a series of groundbreaking experiments in a laser interception system. The new system successfully intercepted unmanned aerial vehicles, shrapnel, rockets and anti-tank missiles. For the first time ever, a powerful laser system, developed by Mapat and Raphael Blue and White, intercepts targets from miles away,” Defense Minister Benny Gantz said in a tweet via Twitter.

“The new system succeeded in intercepting drones, mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and anti-tank missiles,” he added.

And he continued, “For the first time ever, a powerful laser system developed by the Research and Development Department of the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Israeli company Rafael is intercepting targets from kilometers away.”

Israel relies on the “Iron Dome” system, to confront the missiles launched toward its territory, but the difficulty of this system in intercepting drones, mortars, and short-range missiles; pushed them to try to invent new systems.

In a second tweet, Gantz pledged, “This achievement is reserved for Israeli innovation, the defense system and the industries that come together and provide an umbrella of security and protection for the citizens of Israel. Every effort is made to make the system operational as soon as possible and enable an efficient, inexpensive and innovative protection umbrella. A protective umbrella that will save lives – and allow a wide maneuvering space in the attack in front of our enemies.” seen by The Eastern Herald online magazine .

He stressed that “this system provides an effective, inexpensive and innovative protection umbrella to save lives and provides ample room for maneuvering in the attack in front of our enemies.”

After the end of its aggression against Gaza in the summer of 2014, Israel began conducting a series of experiments on a laser-based defense system for years to provide solutions to the threats facing it, represented by mortars, marches and rocket-propelled grenades.
