The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had an interview with Rob Schmitt, the head of “Newsmax”, who during the conversation asked him, among other things, whether there would be a war in Ukraine if Donald Trump was still the President of the United States.

–  Do you think that a different American leadership, a different Western leadership, could have prevented this aggression? There are many Americans who believe that this invasion would not have happened if someone like Donald Trump was still in the White House. What is your position – was Schmidt’s question.

Zelenskyy replied that he was grateful for the help provided by the current President of the USA, Joe Biden and that the support of the American public was the most important for Ukraine, regardless of which party was in power.

–  Well, I believe that the most important help is the people of the United States. They pay taxes, and the money that is set aside to support Ukraine comes from taxes and all that is humanitarian, financial, and military support to Ukraine. So I am grateful to the current president of the United States, as well as to those in the political parties that support us – said Zelenskyy and added:

–  I am sorry if I say something that you do not like, but for us as a country at war, it does not matter whether they are Democrats or Republicans. It is the people of the United States who support us.

He pointed out that he did not know what would have happened if Trump had been the president of the United States.

“So I can’t predict what would happen,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that “US values are the same, that anyone can become president.”

–  Some may love Ukraine more, some less. But the values that our country is fighting for are definitely those that are supported by the United States – said Zelenskyy .

The Ukrainian president said that it was important for American institutions such as the Senate and the Congress to do the same regardless of who is in power, in order to maintain “US values”.
