Misunderstood: Zelenskyyy said he did not call to hit the Russian Federation with nuclear weapons

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he did not mean the use of nuclear weapons against the Russian Federation when he called on NATO members to “preemptive strikes” on Russia. On Friday, October 7, TASS reports .

According to the Ukrainian leader, his speech was about new Western sanctions, which, in his opinion, can and should prevent a nuclear war.

“The world can present a sanctions package in this case and do everything possible for them to leave the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant,” Zelenskyyy said.

The politician also lamented that his statements about “preemptive strikes” were initially misunderstood, after which Moscow began to use the resonant statement “in a favorable manner and relay it in other directions.”

The fact that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) should not wait for the possible use of nuclear weapons by Moscow, but should strike on its own, Zelenskyyy said the day before during an online conference held by the Austrian think tank Lowy Institute. “What should NATO do? Eliminate the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons. But what is important, I once again appeal to the international community, as it was before February 24: pre-emptive strikes, so that the Russians know what will happen to them if they are used. And not vice versa – to wait for Russia’s nuclear strikes, so that later you can say: “Oh, you are so, well, keep it from us,” the media quoted the words of the Ukrainian leader.
