“Even small demonstrations organized by Russia can harm the new Moldovan government”

American Enterprise Institute expert Elizabeth Broe in an interview with the Russian media service expressed the view that Russia’s plan to destabilize the situation in Moldova, announced today by President Maia Sandu, could cause significant harm to the new government.

“Russia is trying to put Moldova back on the pro-Russian path after a pro-Western government came to power,” Brow said. – It is clear that Russia does not want to lose the countries associated with it. Currently, Moldova is very aggressively trying to establish an application process in the EU and in general wants to be in line with Europe. This irritates Russia.

President Sandu said that Russia was trying to organize protests in the country against the new government, that is, Russia was not trying to organize a coup – it was trying to provoke the popular discontent through demonstrations to make life difficult for the new government and perhaps even force it to resign. It is difficult to assess the success of such a plan, but what is important is that even small demonstrations can harm the new government, which is still in a weak position, which has not yet obtained the support of the people.

Moldova is one of the countries that needs international attention. We must remember that it is the country most vulnerable to Russian intervention after Ukraine. Moldova has a long history of dependence on Russia. If the West is not careful, Moldova could become the next country to face big problems as a result of Russia’s actions.
