19 February 2023, 15:09 – Public Information Service – TEH – Since the devastating February 6 earthquake in Turkey, more than six thousand repeated tremors have occurred in the country. The head of the Office for the Elimination of the Consequences of Natural Disasters (AFAD), Orkhan Tatar, spoke about this, referring to the data of seismologists.
Thus, the number of aftershocks since February 6 exceeded 6040 – usually such an indicator is recorded in the country over a period of four months. At the same time, the strongest was a shock with a magnitude of 6.6, and almost five hundred – with a magnitude from 4 to 6.
Earlier, seismologists raised the risk of another devastating earthquake in Istanbul. A possible natural disaster will be more serious than what happened on February 6 in the south-east of the country.
Later, the city hall noticed that in Istanbul ten thousand people lived in houses with the maximum risk of instantaneous collapse during an earthquake. Read more in the article from the public press service.
