The European Thai Boxing Championship has ended in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. The Russian team was successful in the tournament, winning 90 medals and taking first place in the team standings.
The Krasnodar Territory team won 13 awards (8 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze).Thai boxers from Sochi also contributed to the overall success. They won 3 medals in the age category up to 17-23 years old. Kirill Chizhik, a student of sports school No. 3, became the winner by weight up to 54 kg (trainer E.Yu. Protsenko), and Elizaveta Karartynyan from sports school No. 10 became the best in weight up to 67 kg (trainer RI Mustafaev). Another participant of sports school No. 3 Sofia Istratova won a silver medal in weight up to 48 kg (trainer E.Yu. Protsenko)
In the age category of 14-15 years in weight up to 54 kg, Melik Voskanyan (sports school No. 10, trainer RI Mustafayev) won.
Director of the city’s physical culture and sports department Anatoly Miroshnikov noted that about 2,000 people are involved in Thai boxing in Sochi. This sport is one of the most popular in the Olympic capital.
Earlier it became known that the Russian Team Championship in Athletics was moved from Bryansk to Sochi.
