President Joe Biden said Monday he traveled to Kiev to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reaffirm the United States’ unwavering and unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty and territorial integrity. .“When Putin launched his invasion nearly a year ago, he thought Ukraine was weak and the West was divided. He thought he could beat us. But he was sorely mistaken,” Biden pointed out.The president said he had a long conversation with Zelenskyyy and his team about US support for Ukraine. During the conversation, Biden announced new shipments of critical equipment, including artillery shells, anti-tank systems and air surveillance radars, to help protect the people of Ukraine from aerial bombardment.President Biden said later in the week the United States would announce additional sanctions against Russian elites and corporations trying to evade sanctions and prop up the Russian war machine.“Over the past year, the United States has built a coalition of nations from the Atlantic to the Pacific to help defend Ukraine with unprecedented military, economic, and humanitarian support – and that support will continue,” Biden said.The White House chief also focused on his upcoming trip to Poland, where he plans to meet with President Andrzej Duda and leaders of US allies on NATO’s eastern flank, as well as deliver a speech on the how the United States intends to continue to rally the world in the name of supporting the people of Ukraine and protecting the fundamental human rights set out in the Charter of the United Nations.
