Russia has destroyed 45% of high voltage networks and 55-60% of thermal generation facilities in Ukraine. It will take years and billions of dollars to restore Ukraine’s energy system. At the same time, until the conflict is resolved, there is a possibility of further heavy bombardments by the RF armed forces, which could lead to a repeated threat of blackouts. Alexander Kharchenko, director of the Center for Energy Research (Kiev), spoke about it in an interview with the Ukrainian publication Obozrevatel (the site is blocked in Russia).
The expert drew attention to the fact that recently the RF Armed Forces began to carry out significantly fewer missile strikes on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. Large-scale missile strikes have generally ceased.
In this regard, he suggested that Russia may deliberately stockpile missiles during the warm season in order to carry out new waves of attacks on the Ukrainian energy system in the fall, after the start of the heating season. The RF armed forces could try to destroy or at least seriously disrupt the work of the Ukrainian energy industry before winter.
My guess is that the Russians will stockpile missiles all summer and then try to repeat the same attacks as last year. This will be for the next heating season i.e. October November
Kharchenko said.
