Russian President Vladimir Putin, as part of his message to the Federal Assembly, listed the tanks that need to be improved. Among them was the Irtysh, which flows through the Omsk region.
“We will plan the rehabilitation of unique water bodies, including the Baikal and the Volga, and in the medium term we will extend this work to our rivers such as the Don, Kama, Irtysh, Urals, Terek, the Volkhov and the Neva, Lake Ilmen. We must not forget our small and medium rivers either,” said the Head of State.
All levels of government will have to deal with the problematic issue, Putin added. During the speech of the head of state in Gostiny Dvor, the head of the region – 55 Alexander Burkov attended. However, neither in his latest post on the official Telegram channel nor in an interview with local media did the governor comment on the assigned task. The people of Omsk can only hope that the regional authorities will not ignore the painful problem later.
In the Omsk region, the ecological situation is almost critical – over the past year the quality of the Irtysh water has deteriorated from class 2 (slightly polluted) to class 3 (polluted ). High levels of manganese, mercury, phenol and copper have been recorded in the river.
