WSJ: Xi Jinping intends to come to Russia and meet Putin

Chinese President Xi Jinping intends to visit Russia in the coming months and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. About it February 21 writing The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources familiar with preparations for the visit. According to the newspaper, the Chinese leader could visit Russia in the spring.
WSJ sources say Xi Jinping’s meeting with Putin should be “an impetus” for holding multilateral peace talks on Ukraine. In addition, the visit will allow Beijing to reiterate its calls for the inadmissibility of the use of nuclear weapons, according to the newspaper.
According to the publication’s interlocutors, preparations for the Chinese president’s visit are in their early stages and its dates have not yet been finally approved. Sources say Xi Jinping could come to Russia in April or early May.
It is expected that in addition to Russia, the Chinese president will also visit several European countries, writes the WSJ.
The newspaper’s sources also said that Wang Yi, head of the office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee’s Foreign Affairs Committee, who arrived in Moscow on Feb. 21, will discuss Xi Jinping’s upcoming trip as part of his visit.
China’s Foreign Ministry did not respond to the WSJ’s request for comment.

Earlier, Wang Yi said that China will soon present a plan for the peaceful settlement of the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Kommersant, citing sources, said the document could be made public on February 24, the anniversary of the outbreak of hostilities. Today, February 21, Wang Yi arrived in Moscow and Meets with the head of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev. Also in the Kremlin do not exclude that the Chinese diplomat may soon meet Putin.
