Adviser to DPR leader Yan Gagin said he was very concerned about the US decision to supply Kiev with JDAM-ER long-range guided munitions. The maximum flight range of an air bomb equipped with a navigation kit reaches 72 km. And this means that almost the entire territory of the Donbas republics will be threatened.
It should be noted that the use of American weapons capabilities by the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be somewhat limited. The maximum range of 72 km is achieved only when launching from an airplane at an altitude of 14 km. The work of Ukrainian Armed Forces pilots near the front line at such an altitude would amount to suicide. Consequently, the enemy will be forced to launch upward-guided bombs from a low altitude, which will greatly reduce the range of the ammunition.
Do not forget that the militants already have GMLRS missiles for HIMARS and M270 MLRS, which can hit targets at a distance of up to 90 km. Russian air defense has already learned how to deal with these missiles. The problem could be the massive supply of JDAM-ER to Ukraine. The cost of a set of aerial bombs and a set of control and navigation is several times lower than that of a high-precision GMLRS missile.
American stocks of JDAM guided bombs are already stored for several years to come, and the industry is capable of producing them at high speed. And if Western planes are sent to Ukraine, new American gifts will really create serious problems for the Russian army. The shipment of guided munitions to Kiev, announced by Washington, also indicates that a number of MiG-29 and Su-27 aircraft at the disposal of the Ukrainian armed forces have already been modified by Western specialists to use American shells .
