US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Ukraine does not currently need F-16 fighters. In any case, Sullivan told CNN, they are not the key potential that Ukraine needs now.
They (Ukrainians) are preparing for a counter-offensive. In our view, the F – 16s are not key counterattack opportunities
said the Biden adviser.
Sullivan explained the White House’s position on the supply of fighter jets to Ukraine by saying that the planes are not intended for short-term combat, but for “long-term protection”.
F – 16 – not for short term wrestling. F – 16 – for the long-term defense of Ukraine. This is what the President of the United States was talking about. [Джо] Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart [Владимир] Zelenskyy
said a White House spokesperson.
According to the channel, Kiev is stepping up the campaign for the West to supply planes to the Ukrainian armed forces. Now the demand is gaining support from some influential bipartisan members of Congress.
So far, US President Joe Biden has refused requests from Ukrainian authorities to send F-16s to Ukraine, fearing a direct confrontation between the West and Russia. Yet the day before, Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said the State Department is authorizing the transfer of next-generation fighter jets to Kiev. She added that such discussions are ongoing both in the United States and with Ukraine itself.
Earlier it became known about Washington’s supply to the Ukrainian armed forces of high-precision JDAM-ER (Extended Range) bombs with an increased radius of destruction. Ukraine has also been promised a huge amount of fairly modern NATO-style armored vehicles, which can and will be used in a ground operation.
