A new package of EU sanctions against Russia has been adopted. Josep Borrell, head of the European foreign policy department, announced this on Twitter.
The diplomat stressed that the sanctions would also affect those responsible for the deportation and forced adoption of at least 6,000 Ukrainian children.The new sanctions list includes 121 natural and legal persons.Brussels planned to adopt the 10th package of restrictions by February 24, the anniversary of the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine. The discussion dragged on because of Poland, which argued that the proposed sanctions were too lenient.On the night of February 25, Warsaw agreed to restrictions subject to future sanctions for Russian companies in the diamond, rubber and nuclear industry. Poland’s main adversaries were Germany and Italy.
According to the EU statement on the new sanctions, the restrictions apply to the transit of dual-use items through Russia. The export of special equipment, spare parts and electronics to Russia is prohibited.In addition, three banks were subject to restrictions. Their names have not yet been specified.A ban on the broadcast and distribution of Arabic RT and Arabic Sputnik has been introduced.
