Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Chinese leader Xi Jinping could hold talks as Beijing maintains contact with all sides in the conflict. This was stated by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Mao Ning.
“China’s position on the Ukraine crisis is consistent and clear. It is based on facilitating peace negotiations and facilitating a political settlement of the crisis,” RIA Novosti quotes the diplomat.
Earlier, China presented its vision for a political settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The PRC’s peace plan includes 12 points, including the need to respect sovereignty and territorial integrity, the resumption of direct dialogue and a call to prevent further escalation.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and President Volodymyr Zelensyy were skeptical of these ideas. The Financial Times believes that China intends to derive its own benefit from the peace plan, namely to resume trade with the West.
