Slovakia has declared its readiness to transfer 10 MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. This was announced by Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nagy, AP reported.According to the Slovak Defense Minister, the final decision should be taken within a few days or weeks. If the transfer of the MiG-29 takes place, Slovakia will be the first NATO member country to supply combat aircraft to Ukraine.
Slovakia stopped using MiG fighters due to a lack of spare parts and maintenance personnel.
According to the UNIAN agency, to strengthen the air defense of Ukraine, not only air defense and missile defense systems are needed, but also combat aircraft. Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov stressed that Ukraine needed fighters to launch a counter-offensive. Discussions on the supply of combat aircraft to Ukraine have been going on for more than a month
At the same time, Italian media write that Italy can supply five combat aircraft to Ukraine. We are talking about Tornado and Amx. However, Italy does not want to be the first to do so.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said his country is ready to transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. But Poland will only do so as part of a broader coalition.
