The Home Office reported an upsurge in extremist crime in January

In January, a sharp increase in extremist crimes was recorded in Russia, reports RIA Novosti with reference to the Russian Interior Ministry.

Thus, the number of such crimes amounted to 134 and increased by 157.7% compared to the same period of the previous year. In addition, 157 terrorist crimes were recorded, and the growth was 12.1%.

At the same time, a total of 151.1 thousand crimes were recorded in January, an increase across the country amounting to 1.1%. A decrease in the number of criminal acts was recorded in 39 regions of Russia, and in 36 regions there is an increase.

For the whole of 2022, 1,566 extremist crimes were committed in Russia, their number increased by almost half compared to 2021.
