Businessman Oleg Tinkov called the British sanctions imposed on him a mistake. At the same time, he considers the sanctions against the majority of Russian businessmen to be deserved.
According to the entrepreneur, he founded Tinkoff Bank without the help of the authorities, “from scratch”, creating more than 100,000 jobs. Tinkov said that after the start of the SVO in Ukraine he “left everything he had built and worked for”. And he did it because “he couldn’t be associated with the country he loved”.
Under these circumstances, he “should never have been put on the sanctions list”. He understands that “in difficult situations mistakes can be made” and hopes that this mistake will now be corrected.
The entrepreneur also noted that professors from leading educational institutions in the UK, as well as many business people, including Richard Branson, had spoken out in his defense.
On March 1, Bloomberg reported that former Russian businessman Oleg Tinkov had formally filed an application with the UK Foreign Office and asked to be removed from the sanctions list.
