Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Friday after meeting with his Indian, Japanese and Australian counterparts that Russia should not be allowed to wage war with impunity.
The foreign ministers of the Quad countries met on the sidelines of the G-20 meeting in New Delhi.
The Quad Group issued a statement saying the threat of Russian use of nuclear weapons is “unacceptable”.
Last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin suspended the New START treaty and threatened Ukraine with nuclear weapons.
Russian defense companies showcase their products at major international arms fairs, the British Ministry of Defense said in its daily report on the Russian invasion of Ukraine on Friday. The companies are promoting the Arena-E Active Protection System, or APS, which the ministry says is designed to improve the survivability of armored vehicles. APS promotional material at a recent exhibition said the system “eliminates the most dangerous threats to armored vehicles”.
However, there is no evidence that the system was installed on Russian combat vehicles in Ukraine, where, according to the ministry, Russian forces lost more than 5,000 armored personnel carriers. The discrepancy is likely due to the inability of Russian companies to “manufacture high-tech systems at scale”, the UK MoD said, calling it a “problem exacerbated by international sanctions”.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a March 2 speech that “Russia’s vicious missile strike on Zaporizhzhia will trigger our military and legal response.” He said, “The occupier will inevitably feel our strength.
Ukrainian authorities said a Russian rocket hit a building in Zaporizhzhia, killing at least three people. President Zelenskyyy wrote on his Telegram channel that the rocket destroyed three floors of the building.
