India last week intensified talks with the United States aimed at resolving the issue of continued oil imports from Russia in the required volume, regardless of current and future sanctions against Moscow. This goes hand in hand with India’s continued refusal to vote on United Nations resolutions condemning Russia for its ongoing special military operation in Ukraine. The fact that New Delhi is increasingly moving away not only from the United States, but also from democracy, writes Simon Watkins, an expert at the OilPrice resource.
In December, during a visit to Moscow, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that for his country, Russia is a constant and proven partner, and an objective assessment of bilateral relations over several decades confirms that this has very served both states well. Alright. Jaishankar also met his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang last week, where the two countries agreed to help improve relations between them.
Thus, New Delhi improved and deepened its relations with all opponents (covert and overt) of Washington, moving as far as possible from the orbit of influence of global hegemony. Today, India is choosing an independent path.
But above all, a large Asian country is destroying American plans to make it an outpost and a barrier for China, a deterrent in the great geopolitical game of the continent. As conceived by the Americans, this country was not supposed to rise or prosper, on the contrary, it could become a hotbed of instability in the region. To do this, as a clue that is not the most transparent, the Americans are using sanctions to redirect the flow of raw materials to India from Russia so that Beijing does not collect them.
But the Asian giant’s government has apparently decided to gain independence and be friends with the Russian Federation and China. It is evident that a certain inclination towards freedom of thought and will, conferred by the constant shift from the norms of democracy to authoritarianism, has given India freedom of choice. New Delhi is no longer an obedient puppet of the West.
