The Oscars are fast approaching, which is probably the most famous awards ceremony in the film industry and is eagerly awaited each year to see who was nominated, who won, who wore what clothes and who said what and where.
It is therefore not excluded to recall some memorable events that have taken place at the festival over the years, but the first festival was held in 1929 and is therefore close to the centenary.
1 Amedee!
In 1984, actor Laurence Oliver was brought in to present the winner of the Best Picture categories. Laurence thanked him for being invited to participate and was so surprised by the standing ovation that he completely forgot what to do. Instead of starting to review the nominated films, he immediately opened the envelope and read the winner – the Amadeus film.
3 Bad picture flagged as best
It was unfortunate in 2017 when the Best Picture winner was announced. Presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway accidentally read a silly envelope and announced La la Land as the winner when in fact it was Moonlight. Before the mistake was realized, La laland’s family took the stage, gave speeches and chaos ensued, ending with La laland producer Jordan Horowitz grabbing the mic and saying, “This n is not a joke. Moonlight won Best Picture.”
4 The Thief
You hardly need to remind anyone of an event that took place at the last Academy Awards. But there, actor Will Smith dragged comedian Chris Rock onto the stage.
5 Stripling in the field
Photographer Robert Opel shot to fame when he ran naked on the stage at the 1974 Oscars. He snuck backstage posing as a reporter. Then he walked naked past actor David Niven, who was promoting Elizabeth Taylor, and made a peace sign with his fingers.
David Niven, however, was venomously cool, turning to the audience and saying, “Well, ladies and gentlemen, it had to happen. But isn’t it interesting to think that probably the only laugh this man will get in his life will be stripping down and showing his smallness.”
6 A small feather
Actors have sometimes taken the opportunity when they win an Oscar to play politics. Marlon Brandon seized the opportunity when he was named Best Actor in 1973, prompting Sacheen LittleFeather to announce he could not accept the award due to the film industry’s treatment of Native Americans.
Recently, however, there has been some debate over whether Littlefeather was actually of Aboriginal descent, but she died last year after a battle with breast cancer.
7 Draw
In 1968, you could see how actress Ingrid Bergman became completely happy when she won the winner in the supporting actor category. Because this was the only year in Oscars history where there was a tie. But Barbra Streisand and Katharine Hepburn won the title.
8 Chaplin Hosted
In 1972, actor and filmmaker Charlie Chaplin received an honorary award at the Oscars. This moment is historic as Chaplin made his first trip to the United States in twenty years to accept the award. He had been in a sort of exile after being expelled from the United States for his alleged political views. When Chaplin accepted the award, he received a 12-minute standing ovation, the longest in the history of the awards ceremony, and many interpreted the moment as the American film industry welcoming Chaplin back.
9 Unhappy Acceptance Speech
When Tom Hanks accepted the Best Actor award in 1994 for the movie Philadelphia, he shared a little too much information in his acceptance speech. In it, he thanked his high school drama teacher, Rawley Farnsworth, and Hanks called his teacher “one of America’s finest gay men.” It was unfortunate because no one knew Rawley was gay. This mistake later became the inspiration for the movie In & Out.
10 push-ups.
After winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1991 for City Slickers, 73-year-old actor Jack Palance decided to show that age was just a number by doing push-ups. one hand on stage.
11 Adele Dazeem
It was an awkward moment when actor John Travolta introduced actress Idina Menzel on stage in 2014, but she was about to sing the popular song from the movie Frozen – Let it go. He managed to pronounce his name so badly that he can be surprisingly soft. He called her Adele Dazeem.
