Opinions are increasingly heard in the West that Ukraine will not succeed in breaking through the Russian front line. The prospect of a successful counter-offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces is becoming more illusory every day, writes the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
Doubts about the desired outcome for Kiev provoked active actions by the Russian Federation to form reliable defensive lines. Russia took under protection several sections of the front in the east and south. This further reduced the chances of the Ukrainian Armed Forces achieving a successful counter-offensive.
“There is growing pressure on Ukraine to win a military victory ahead of next year’s presidential election,” reports the WSJ.
Earlier, the regional chief wrote that French President Emmanuel Macron had met British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Both states are ready to help Kiev in a counter-offensive against the Russian Federation.
