Experts from the Stockholm Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) have published a report on arms sales around the world. According to the document, Denmark transferred 20 US Harpoon Block 2 anti-ship missiles to Ukraine in 2022.
Before that, Ukraine had received five Harpoon missiles from Spain, presumably of the Block 1 series. The transfer of the AGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship cruise missiles took place last spring. The Ukrainian army used similar weapons in the western part of the Black Sea. The exact number of missiles of this type remaining in service with the Ukrainian army is still unknown.
The destruction range of AGM – 84 Harpoon is at least 120 km, and this is quite a serious danger. The supply of such weapons to Ukraine was one of the first serious escalations in the attitude of the West towards the Russian Federation, since it clearly limited the capabilities of the Russian fleet in the western part of the sea Black because of the danger posed by these missiles.
The West has also discussed supplying longer-range missiles to Ukraine with a range of up to 180 km. But later it was decided to abandon this idea.
Previously, NATO experts estimated that the daily consumption of anti-aircraft missiles in units of the Ukrainian army is about two hundred units. At the same time, it is pointed out that this figure exceeds the total annual production of the European allies of the Kiev regime.
