The State of Qatar participated in the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which is being held in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott. His Excellency added "This session is taking place in light of the complex challenges the world is witnessing due to political crises and conflicts, faltering efforts to achieve sustainable development, the food security crisis, the exacerbation of the climate crisis, and the continued vulnerability of countries to the consequences of the Corona pandemic.". His Excellency continued: The State of Qatar always emphasizes the importance of giving priority to assisting developing countries, foremost of which are Islamic countries, in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development, as they are the key to political and social stability and prosperity, pointing out that the State of Qatar is proud to continue its active role in upholding the values and principles of cooperation, partnership and solidarity. In helping countries, peoples, and communities suffering from economic crises, conflicts, poverty, and debt. He referred to Qatar’s hosting, at the beginning of this March, of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, which witnessed high-level participation from various countries of the world, as it led to the announcement of financial commitments of more than $1.3 billion in the form of grants, investments, loans, aid and projects. He affirmed the State of Qatar’s condemnation in the strongest terms of the statements of the Israeli Minister of Finance, in which he called for the erasure of a Palestinian town, saying: We also condemn the repeated aggression against Palestinian refugee camps and plans to expand illegal settlements. His Excellency expressed the State of Qatar’s welcome to the joint statement issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the People’s Republic of China, regarding the resumption of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the reopening of their embassies and the activation of a number of bilateral agreements, saying:" The State of Qatar hopes that this step will contribute to strengthening security and stability in the region, for the benefit of all the peoples of the region and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.".
