Today, the Council of the League of Arab States strongly condemned the violations and crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against defenseless worshipers in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning that these attacks represent a flagrant provocation to the feelings of Muslims, and threaten to ignite a cycle of violence that threatens security and stability in the region and the world.

This came during the meeting of the extraordinary session of the Council at the level of permanent delegates, which Jordan called for in coordination with the State of Palestine and Egypt in its capacity as chair of the 159th regular session of the League Council, with the participation of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the League.

The State of Qatar was represented in the meeting by His Excellency Mr. Fahd Rashid Al-Muraikhi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the League of Arab States. The emergency meeting aims to discuss the Arab and international action to confront the brutal Israeli crimes and attacks on the lives and sanctities of the Palestinian people in the occupied city of Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Palestine, in light of the developments taking place in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque following the storming of the Al-Qibli prayer hall last night, and the assault on the seclusion and worshipers present in it.

The Council of the League of Arab States indicated, in a statement issued at the end of the meeting, that the dangerous escalation of the crimes of the Israeli occupation forces against unarmed worshipers during the past days of the blessed month of Ramadan, which took place in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, led to hundreds of injuries and arrests among the worshipers who were secluded in the mosque. And to the deliberate desecration of the sanctity of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque by extremist Israeli officials and settlers under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces.

He called on the United Nations, including the Security Council, to assume legal, moral and humanitarian responsibilities, with the aim of immediately stopping this Israeli aggression, providing international protection for the Palestinian people and preserving their right to freedom of worship, stressing the rejection and condemnation of all forms of Israeli violations of Islamic and Christian holy places, especially attempts to Changing the existing historical and legal situation in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, dividing it temporally and spatially, undermining the Muslims’ prayer in it and distancing them from it, as well as trying to control the Jordanian Islamic Endowment Administration in occupied Jerusalem, assaulting its employees and preventing them from practicing their work, and attempts to impose Israeli law on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Council affirmed the right of Muslims and Christians to safe and unrestricted access to their places of worship in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the churches of occupied Jerusalem, holding Israel, the occupying power, responsible for what results from crimes and measures that undermine freedom of worship in Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city of Jerusalem, foremost of which is the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. Which constitute flagrant violations of United Nations resolutions and international humanitarian law. He warned that these attacks and crimes are a flagrant provocation to the feelings of believers everywhere, and threaten to ignite a spiral of violence that threatens security and stability in the region and the world.

The Council of the Arab League demanded the implementation of the decisions related to the Palestinian issue issued by the Executive Council of UNESCO and the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO, which confirmed that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a pure place of worship for Muslims only, and an integral part of the world cultural heritage sites.

The Council saluted the Palestinian people, the Jerusalemites who are steadfast in the occupied city of Jerusalem and who are defending with their bare chests the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Islamic and Christian holy sites, in the face of the systematic crimes and brutal attacks of the Israeli occupation authorities and forces in the Holy City, stressing the determination of Member States to take the necessary steps and measures on all Levels and levels, including launching an intensive diplomatic move, through messages, contacts and bilateral meetings, in order to protect the city of Jerusalem, defend its Islamic and Christian sanctities, and support the political, social, economic and human rights of its people.

The statement called for the coordination of action between the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to protect the occupied city of Jerusalem from the systematic Israeli policies and attacks, as well as the action of the councils of Arab ambassadors and the missions of the League of Arab States in order to launch an intense diplomatic effort to convey the contents of this statement to the capitals of influential countries around the world. He also called on the Arab groups in the United Nations, the Human Rights Council and UNESCO, to initiate the necessary consultations and measures to confront and stop the systematic Israeli attacks in the occupied city of Jerusalem, and to keep the Council in a permanent state of session to follow up on the developments of the Israeli aggressive plans.
