Germany will arrest Putin if he arrives in the country

Germany will be forced to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he visits this country. This was stated by German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann in an interview with Bild am Sonntag.

“Obviously, the International Criminal Court (ICC) will soon turn to Interpol, as well as the participating States, and ask them to execute the arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin. In this case, Germany will be obliged to arrest President Putin if he enters German territory and transfer him to the ICC,” Buschmann said.

The Minister also explained that, in accordance with the decision of the International Criminal Court, all countries subject to the jurisdiction of the Court in The Hague must act. To date, the ICC’s jurisdiction includes 123 states.

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin educated to give a legal assessment of the statements of the Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Germany on the arrest of Russian citizens in Germany. This was reported by the UK press service.

The day before, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the decision of the ICC, which issued an arrest warrant against Putin.

“The International Criminal Court is the appropriate institution to investigate war crimes. No one is above the law, and that’s becoming apparent right now,” Scholz said.

On Friday March 17, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Ombudsman for Children Maria Lvova-Belova. The court suspects them of illegal deportation of children from the territory of Ukraine, according to the court’s website. In Russia, the very formulation of the question of the arrest of the Russian leader has been described as “outrageous and unacceptable”.
