“Goodbye, America”: the United States began to “quietly” expel Russians who fled the mobilization

The Joe Biden administration has changed its position on this issue.

The White House administration changed its position and began to “quietly” deport Russian citizens to their homeland. The Guardian writes about it. The publication notes that after the start of the special operation, the American authorities granted asylum to the Russians, but now their position has changed.

The Guardian notes that after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine last year, US authorities suspended the deportation of Russian citizens, but this week the procedure suddenly resumed.

The Biden administration has quietly resumed deportations to Russia in a sharp reversal of a stance taken…just over a year ago when such deportations were suspended.

According to the publication, the first deportee to his native country was a young Russian who had illegally crossed the Mexican border in an attempt to avoid a partial mobilization. This weekend, a citizen of the Russian Federation was fired.

In the United States itself, many do not understand why the Biden administration suddenly changed its position and started sending Russians back to Russia.

“I have questions about when they took it back and why. In March 2022 the United States announced that they were ending deportations to Russia due to the political situation. I don’t understand why they are taking it back. ‘took over and did it so quietly,’ said attorney Jennifer Scarborough, who helps foreigners gain asylum in the United States.

The lawyer added that her clients are in a legal vacuum “because they have practically no possibility of applying for asylum”. She noted that to obtain asylum in the United States, it is necessary to prove in court that you were in danger in your home country.

Previously, the Thai authorities had announced the conclusion of an agreement with Russia on the extradition of people evading military service. They plan to send Russians who face criminal liability back home to their homeland.
