The United States considers potential calls for a truce in Ukraine following the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping to be unacceptable. This was stated by the Strategic Communications Coordinator at the White House National Security Council, John Kirby.
A White House spokesperson told Fox News that if Putin’s meeting with Xi Jinping results in a call for a truce in Ukraine, the United States would view such actions as unacceptable. Kirby said that would only ratify Russia’s actions in Ukraine and “give Putin the opportunity to plan a new offensive.”
Earlier, Kirby said a truce in Ukraine would mean securing Russian territorial gains, which would violate the UN charter.
At the beginning of March, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow did not refuse serious offers for negotiations on Ukraine, but he did not remember anyone calling on Kiev for dialogue.
The Kremlin press service reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping, at the invitation of Vladimir Putin, will visit Russia from March 20 to 22.
