Oleg Orlov, a board member of the Memorial Human Rights Center*, became the accused in a criminal case for repeatedly discrediting the Russian armed forces (Part 1, Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code). On this subject reported in the telegram channel of “Memorial” *.
First, Memorial* reported that a criminal case had been opened against Orlov for inciting separatism. Later, human rights activists noted that this was a mistake.
At the end of April 2022, Orlov was arrested in Red Square for picketing against military operations in Ukraine. After that, a protocol was drawn up against him on discrediting the military and violating the rules for holding public events. The court imposed a fine of 65,000 rubles on the human rights activist.
On the morning of March 21, several employees of the Memorial*, including Orlov, were searched as part of the “rehabilitation of Nazism” affair.
According to Memorial*, the security forces visited Yan Rachinsky, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Memorial Society*, Nikita Petrov, Vice-President of the Center for Human Rights, Alexandra Polivanova, Representative of the Moscow branch of Memorial*, and her mother, as well as Irina Ostrovskaya, Galina Iordanskaya, Alena Kozlova and Alexander Guryanov.
Searches also took place in the premises of Memorial* at Maly Karetny Lane in Moscow.
Following the searches, the security forces seized equipment and objects bearing the logos of the Memorial*. After the searches, several employees were taken to the commission of inquiry for questioning.
