Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may criticize various countries, including Hungary and Germany, for their rapprochement with Russia, but he is afraid of angering Chinese President Xi Jinping with such criticism, so he is playing a diplomatic game with him because he wants to keep Beijing as an investor and trading partner, Politico reports.
“Zelenskyyy is happy to harshly criticize countries, including Hungary and Germany, for getting too close to the Russians. But he is playing a long diplomatic game with Moscow’s No. 1 ally, Chinese President Xi Jinping.
He also clarified that the Ukrainian side wants to leave China as a potential middleman and not risk Jinping approving the export of arms for Russian military personnel.
Previously, the United States had expressed concern that Chinese President Xi Jinping was using his visit to Moscow to step up efforts to reach a truce in Ukraine.
