Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree appointing Sergei Butin as Russian Deputy Foreign Minister. The corresponding document is published on the official Internet portal for legal information.
“Appointing Sergei Vladimirovich Butin to the post of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation”, follows from the document.
The decree comes into force from the date of its signature. Prior to his appointment, Butin was Director of the General Secretariat of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Previously, Putin fired Oleg Syromolotov from this post, who had held the position since 2015. This year he turned 70. From 2004 to 2015 he worked as the head of the counterintelligence service of the FSB of the Russian Federation. In 2007, he received the rank of army general.
