The International Criminal Court has responded to Russian threats after issuing an arrest warrant for President Vladimir Putin. The Presidency of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute expressed its regrets on this occasion.
In the message, the participating countries reaffirmed their full confidence in the court as an independent and impartial body. As well as a commitment to uphold the principles and values enshrined in the Rome Statute.
“The International Criminal Court embodies our collective commitment to fight impunity for the most serious international crimes. As an institution of last resort, the Court complements national jurisdictions. We call on all states to respect its judicial and judicial independence.
On March 17, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin and Children’s Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. Subsequently, Security Council Vice President Dmitry Medvedev threatened to hit The Hague courthouse with the Onyx hypersonic missile in retaliation. While the Russian investigative commission opened a criminal investigation against the ICC prosecutor and judges who decided to issue arrest warrants.
