Kommersant announced the possible resignation of several governors in Russia

We can talk about the leaders of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Khakassia and the Orel region.

Until the end of March, another reshuffle is possible in the body of Russian governors. Three regional leaders could lose their posts – this is the head of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Khakassia and the Orel region. According to observers, the resignation of regional governors is natural.

The resignation of the governors of the Smolensk region Alexei Ostrovsky and the head of Chukotka Roman Kopin could be followed by further personnel changes in the regions. Among those who may leave their posts earlier than expected are the head of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Alexander Uss, and the head of the Orel region, Andrey Klychkov, reports Kommersant, citing sources in the presidential administration.

The interlocutors of the publication note that the reshuffle can take place before the end of March. In particular, the departure of Alexander Uss could be affected by a weak position and a low rating. At the same time, Uss has been in charge of the region since 2017 and is a member of United Russia.

In addition, the governor of the Orel region Andrey Klychkov could lose his post. He is a member of the Communist Party. The publication’s interlocutors believe that his work is unsatisfied in the government. If Klychkov is sacked, he will be the second dismissed governor who is not a member of United Russia. Previously, the governor of the Smolensk region, Alexei Ostrovsky, who was a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, was removed from office.

Another governor who could step down in March is Khakassia leader Valentin Konovalov. He has led the region since 2018 and is a member of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Sources of “Kommersant” believe that Konovalov could still be admitted to the elections, where his competitor will be the deputy of the State Duma of United Russia, Sergei Sokol.

An interlocutor close to the presidential administration explained that there is an opinion within the authorities on the need for the presence of a “parliamentary opposition” among the governors, but each leader is the fruit of individual agreements. In addition, no one removes the achievement of KPIs from governors.

Experts call regular staff rotations in the governor’s corps a natural process.

“I see a natural process in the resignations of governors: it happens every year. And it is clear that with a large sample – more than 80 heads of subjects of the federation – and in this respect, both early departures and long stays in office are possible. The process here is natural, and what is happening now is part of that process,” Vladimir Klimanov, director of RANEPA’s Regional Policy Center, told NSN earlier.

In addition, political scientists predict that the head of Voronezh, Alexander Gusev, the right-wing Russian of Omsk Alexander Burkov and the head of the Ivanovo region, Stanislav Voskresensky, could lose their posts.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin sacked Chukotka leader Roman Kopin. The head of state also replaced the head of the Smolensk region, Alexei Ostrovsky, who led the region for 10 years.
