Why the public did not benefit even when the price of crude oil was Rs 16.75: Congress

New Delhi: The Congress said on Wednesday that the price of crude oil has come down to Rs 16.75 per liter in the last 305 days, but why was the benefit not given to the people of the country? Party spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh also asked which private sector people imported crude oil from Russia and at what rate?

He told reporters, “When the prices of crude oil increase in the international market, petrol and diesel become expensive. But when the prices fall, the countrymen do not get the benefit of it. That is, when crude oil is expensive, the countrymen pay and when crude oil is cheap, the benefit goes into the government’s pocket. The spokesperson said, ‘The price of crude oil in May 2022 was $ 109.5 per barrel as against $ 70.69 per barrel on March 20. Talking about rupees per liter, the price of crude oil was Rs.53.45 per liter in May 2022 and it became Rs.36.68 per liter on March 20, 2023.

He said, “In the last 305 days, the price of crude oil has come down to Rs 16.75. Vallabh claimed, “It is claimed that crude oil is being bought from Russia at $45 per barrel, but government figures show that the import of crude oil from Russia has benefited only $2 per barrel.” Also asked, “The government should tell the private sector who got crude oil from Russia and at what cost?”
