Washington: The death toll has risen to five in an explosion and fire at a chocolate factory in the US state of Pennsylvania. The blaze occurred on Friday afternoon at the RM Palmer Company which is located in West Reading. The blast destroyed one building and damaged another nearby.
Six people are still missing, according to the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. Eight others were taken to the hospital on Friday evening. Samantha Kag, the mayor of West Reading in Pennsylvania, released a statement Saturday morning saying the tragic explosion and loss of life has shaken the community.
I hope the remaining victims are found safe and the community continues to support those affected by the tragedy in the days to come, Kaag said. The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
