The Red Crescent implements projects to house more than 43,000 beneficiaries in 6 countries

The Red Crescent is implementing 9 projects in the shelter sector during the current year, to accommodate more than 43,000 beneficiaries in Syria, Yemen, Gaza Strip, Niger, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, at a total cost of more than 21 million Qatari riyals, through the Ramadan campaign 1444 AH. "Humanity first: your generosity is benevolence". In northern Syria, a model residential village will be built for those affected by the earthquake, consisting of 300 houses, a mosque, a school, a health center, facilities and services, in addition to supporting, rehabilitating and operating 4 orphanages in the villages of northern Syria. In Yemen, 25 housing units will be built for poor families, and 5,440 shelter kits will be distributed to displaced families. The development projects extend to include building a residential village consisting of 25 houses for poor families in Niger, and building 20 mosques in Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, to enable refugees and families to perform prayers and religious rituals. In the Gaza Strip, 90 housing units for poor families and people with special needs will be restored and maintained, in addition to being rehabilitated with solar energy systems. In Afghanistan, the representative office of the Red Crescent will distribute 1,500 shelter kits to needy Afghan families. During the past year /2022/ the accommodation sector came in second place among the external works of the Red Crescent in terms of the size of the budget, with a total value of 63,277,524 riyals. , distributing non-food items. These projects benefited 343,667 people in 17 countries. And as a reflection of the Red Crescent’s interest in the shelter sector, its representative office in Yemen was selected among the best humanitarian organizations implementing shelter projects, as part of the report issued by the Shelter Cluster of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to assess the performance of humanitarian action partners in Yemen during the first half of the year. 2022. The Red Crescent focuses in its humanitarian interventions in general, and shelter projects in particular, on identifying the most feasible activities for beneficiaries, while adhering to international humanitarian standards and taking into account the work environment.
