The Kaluga region was ranked 8th in the national ecological ranking following the winter results. The “National Environmental Class of Russian Regions” was published by the All-Russian public organization “Green Patrol”, the press service of the Kaluga government reported on Wednesday, March 29.
“According to the results of the work carried out last winter, the Kaluga region took eighth place in the country and entered the top five of the leaders of the Central Federal District,” the press service said.
In general, the scoring results depended on the resolution of problems with household waste. For the Kaluga region, this included the opening of a separate waste collection center in Obninsk, the installation of new containers in Kaluga and the recultivation of a landfill in Zhizdra.
A significant environmental event in the Kaluga region was also the launch of a water treatment plant in the Dzerzhinsky district, the reconstruction of treatment facilities in Yukhnov and the repair of the oldest hydraulic structure in the Kirovsky district.
The pedagogical work was also evaluated during the rating. Residents of Kaluga traditionally become participants in thematic competitions. The famous eco-hero Khokhulya has won the All-Russian competition for eco-emblems.
“Our region has been at the top of the ranking for more than 2 years, which indicates effective and well-coordinated work to improve the environmental situation,” said the region’s Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology, Vladimir Zhipa.
