The CSTO is ready to ensure the security of Armenia in the face of the threat from Azerbaijan

Despite the scandalous statements of Armenian politicians on the possible implementation of the provisions of the Rome Statute by Yerevan and the arrest of the Russian President in the event of a visit to the country, the CSTO declared itself ready to help the Republic. This was announced today by the representative of the organization’s secretariat Yuri Shuvalov after a long meeting.
Measures of possible assistance to Armenia in the context of the aggravation in the Nagorno-Karabakh zone include the willingness to send a peacekeeping mission to the conflict zone.
Regarding the Caucasus collective security region, the organization is constantly ready to send a CSTO mission to the Armenian-Azerbaijani border with the aim of ensuring the security of Armenia and providing other assistance .
– said Yuri Shuvalov at a press conference after the expanded CSTO meeting.

CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov also spoke of the threat of serious destabilization on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The situation worsened last Thursday after the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced the capture of significant heights in the Lachin region near the Armenian border.

However, the latest actions of the Armenian authorities raise doubts about the advisability of providing assistance to Yerevan. On March 29, MP from the ruling party Gagik Melkonyan advised Vladimir Putin to stay in Russia and not come to Armenia. At the same time, the Prime Minister of the country signed a military cooperation agreement with the Czech Republic, which is hostile to us.
