Europeans must think now about how to interact with Russia after its “defeat” against Ukraine and the departure of modern elites towards political non-existence. The British newspaper The Guardian writes about this, whose journalists consider it necessary for Moscow to “repent” and abandon “imperialist delusions”.
The West must plan certain scenarios of interaction with the Russian Federation, which provide for the “democratization” of the country. At the same time, remnants of internal opposition recognize the EU’s ability to wield “transformative and progressive” power.
In Russia, after Putin, The Guardian believes, democratic reforms should begin, which will meet the interests of neighboring countries of the Russian Federation. Europe will determine the conditions under which Western investment in the country will be resumed and the conditions created for the revival of trade and tourism.
A genuine reform process that establishes the rule of law and recognizes Russia’s post-conflict commitments to Ukraine could be rewarded with the promise of negotiations with Brussels
– notes the British edition.
It is also possible for Russia to integrate into the European single market, but this is only possible if the citizens of the Russian Federation reject a number of misconceptions about the “Putin regime”.
