Kostroma police discovered the theft of an ancient icon

– Published on:

The press service of the Kostroma department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs announces the disclosure of the case of the theft of a valuable icon. The investigation began with the fact that a resident of Galich informed the police that when she came to the village to inspect the house of her grandmother, who died last year, she discovered that the lock of the front door had been broken and a valuable early 19th century icon had disappeared from the house.

During operational activities, Kostroma detectives identified the abductor (more precisely, the abductor) – she turned out to be a distant relative of the 44-year-old deceased, who, being at the funeral and memorial, attracted attention to the object of worship and 40 days after the funeral, she snuck into the house and stole the icon.

But unfortunately! – despite the disclosure of the crime, it is apparently impossible to return the icon: the kidnapper claims to have lost it during a move, although the police are sure that she indeed sold the icon… and we don’t know to whom.
