Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Nitish Rana does not consider youngster Suyash Sharma as a mystery spinner and says he is a normal leg-break bowler with a specialty of his own. Delhi’s Under-25 spinner Suyash has played only age-group tournaments so far. He along with Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy took KKR to a comfortable win against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday.
Rana said in the press conference after the match, “Suyash is not a mystery spinner. He is a normal leg-spinner but he has his own specialty as his action is traditional and his ball is very difficult to understand. Suyash was included as an impact player in place of Venkatesh Iyer.
He took three wickets for 30 runs as KKR bowled out RCB for 123 runs in 17.4 overs in front of a target of 205 runs. Rana said, “It has more speed in the air. If there is even the slightest doubt while batting against him, you are 100% in trouble. He will improve match by match.
He said, “I knew Suyash would do well but I wanted to bowl to Sunil and then Varun in the power play and both of them got us success as well. Taking wickets in the middle overs was important.
Rana said, “Varun’s return is very important for us. He didn’t do well last season but is bowling well this time.
Rana also praised Shardul Thakur, who came down at number seven and played a blistering inning of 68 runs in 29 balls. He said, “I had faith in his batting skills from the beginning but the way he played the shots was even better than I expected. If your all-rounder bats like this and turns the match on his own, then what else does a captain want?
