Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Astronomically… the first day of Shawwal and the first day of Eid al-Fitr is Friday, April 21

Qatari Calendar House announces the first day of the month of Shawwal and the first day of the blessed Eid Al-Fitr for the year 1444 AH astronomically. This announcement came after specialists conducted accurate astronomical calculations. The date will fall on Friday, April 21, 2023 AD, God willing. However, the legal decision to enter the month of Shawwal remains under the jurisdiction of the Crescent Investigation Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in the State of Qatar.

According to Engineer Faisal Al-Ansari, Executive Director of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ansari Complex, the crescent of the month of Shawwal for the year 1444 AH will be born on Thursday, April 20, 2023 AD, which marks the day of investigation, at 7:13 am Doha local time, and 4:13 am universal time. He also stated that the crescent of the month of Shawwal will set after the sunset of the investigation day, April 20, 2023 AD, in the sky of the State of Qatar. The period of setting will be 22 minutes, which will increase as we head west.

The Qatari Calendar House reminds the public that the movement of the moon in its orbit around the earth determines the beginnings and ends of the Hijri months, while the movement of the earth in its orbit around the sun determines the beginnings and ends of the Gregorian months. The announcement of the date of the first day of Shawwal comes after conducting accurate astronomical calculations by specialists in the field.

The Qatari Calendar House emphasizes the importance of adhering to the legal decision to enter the month of Shawwal issued by the Crescent Investigation Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in the State of Qatar. The committee will base its decision on actual sightings of the crescent moon. The Qatari Calendar House also extends its congratulations to all Muslims worldwide on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, praying that it will be a blessed and joyful occasion for all.
